Immunochemical Studies of Human Saliva. I. The Demonstration of Serum Proteins in Whole and Parotid Saliva

1 Department of Microbiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Columbia University

Rabbits were immunized with pooled whole human saliva. Agar diffusion studies employing the resultant antisera and various antigens showed the extremely complex nature of saliva. The experimental findings indicated that it contained unaltered serum proteins as well as distinct salivary antigens.
