1. A method has been developed for measuring the adhesion of foodstuffs to tooth surfaces. This involves modification of a standard tensile strength tester to measure the strength of food-tooth bonds in pounds per square inch.
2. It is possible to compare the adhesiveness of a foodstuff under different conditions, and also to compare the adhesiveness of different foods.
3. Variations noted in the adhesiveness of foodstuffs on different test surfaces demonstrate the importance of using enamel surfaces in such measurements.
4. Alternative uses and limitations of the apparatus were reported.
