The effect of increased salivary flow, as produced by the administration of pilocarpine, on the incidence of dental caries in the rat was studied. It was found that 2 mg. of pilocarpine given daily significantly reduced the dental caries incidence, while 6 and 12 mg. daily did not reduce caries significantly. Apparently the salivary flow-dental caries relationship is not a simple one. Desiccated thyroid was found to be a potent anticariogenic agent, as has been reported in previous studies.
