This preliminary study of the effects of several drugs and materials used in dental practice on the oxygen consumption in bovine dental pulp indicates that several of them probably have a significant inhibitory effect on respiratory activity in this tissue. Further investigations are necessary to reveal the mechanisms by which these inhibitions are accomplished.
