The following properties of the saliva of the Hunt-Hoppert caries-resistant and caries-susceptible rats have been studied: pH, amylase activity, relative viscosity, surface tension, refractive index, specific gravity, agglutinin titer for rat oral lactobacilli, and antagonistic effect of saliva against rat oral lactobacilli. The relative viscosity tended to be slightly, and possibly significantly higher in saliva from resistant rats. In the case of all of the other properties studied, no differences were found.
