On 48 tooth surfaces in 3 monkeys and 5 dogs the enamel surface was ground away below the gingival margin. The animals were sacrificed after 23 to 216 days. The histologic sections showed reappearance of a thin cuticle corresponding to the description usually given of the "primary enamel cuticle."
