A simplified photometric micromethod for the determination of citric acid has been presented. It is based upon the oxidation and bromination of citric acid to pentabromacetone by vanadic acid in the presence of bromine. The pentabromacetone is then reacted with alkaline pyridine to give a pink-colored pyridine solution. The method has been used for the analysis of bones and dentin and can also be applied to blood serum and urine.
