1. Surfaces of enamel, treated in various fashions, were continually subjected to applications of acid, and the rate of decalcification was estimated.
2. There is some evidence that the enamel of unerupted teeth is more soluble than that of erupted teeth.
3. As a general observation, the external layers of enamel are less soluble than the corresponding subsurfaces.
4. It is suggested that this relative insolubility indicates the existence of a hypercalcified zone of enamel at the external surface.
