The citrate:PO4 ratios of the new minerals deposited during calcification in vitro are related to the citrate:PO4 ratios of the fluid. This may be taken as further evidence for the hypothesis that variations of the composition of mineral deposits in the body are related to variations in composition of the fluid from which the deposits form. There was no evidence of citrate incorporation in the absence of citrate in the fluid, above the small amount of citrate initially present.
