ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF DENTIN IN FISH

I. SQUALUS ACANTHIAS LINNAEUS

THORVALD KVAM D.D.S., PH.D.1

1 University of California College of Dentistry, San Francisco, Calif.

The formation of the collagenous fibers of the dentin in Squalus acanthias Linnaeus is effected by differentiation in the cytoplasm of the peripheral cells of the dental papilla. Along the sides of the tooth, basally to the mesodermal enamel, von Korff's fibers participate in the formation of the outermost dentinal layer.
