AN OBSERVED CORRELATION BETWEEN AMMONIA CONCENTRATION AND ACID PRODUCTION IN SALIVA

1. A statistically significant positive correlation exists between acid produced on incubation of saliva-glucose mixtures and the ammonia concentration (a) initial and (b) after incubation.

2. This correlation extends to all groups of subjects studied including a group of "caries-low" school children.

3. The significance of the observations is discussed.
