1. A complete and reliable oral examination of laboratory animals can be achieved quickly without the use of anaesthetics and without sacrificing the animal.
2. The examination can be completed without touching the molar teeth or gingiva.
3. The technique is simple, quick, and noninjurious to the animal when proper experience is attained.
