1 Walter G. Zoller Memorial Dental Clinic, University of Chicago, Chicago, Ill.

Data collected from 12,014 children have been presented and analyzed for the value of roentgenologic procedures as a means of visualization of carious lesions on the proximal surfaces of both deciduous and permanent dentitions. A total of 64,776 carious lesions were recorded. Of this number, 34,877 separate carious areas (53.84 per cent) were detected by roentgen studies which were completely overlooked in what is considered to be a thorough clinical examination.
