III. DIFFERENCE IN THE ACTION OF CIGARETTE AND PIPE SMOKING

The presence of gingivitis and calculus has been studied in 1,848 Marines smoking cigarettes only and 273 smoking pipes only. While there is no difference as regards the incidence of gingivitis, a significantly greater deposit of calculus is observed in pipe smokers than in cigarette smokers.
