VARIATIONS IN SALIVARY PROTEIN CONCENTRATION

ROBERT J. GORLIN A.B., D.D.S.1

1 School of Dental and Oral Surgery, Columbia University, New York, N. Y.

Fasting whole saliva was collected front 35 individuals to determine whether constant amounts of salivary protein was excreted when there was uniformity in collection technic and treatment before and during analysis. Utmost care was given to prevent loss of protein through enzyme action.

The method of Greenberg, as adapted for salivary protein by Krasnow and Oblatt, was utilized on 1 c.c. samples. A mean value of 280.4 mg. per cent was obtained. The standard deviation of the series was 65.93 mg. per cent.

It may be concluded that control of the factors introduced in this study had no effect upon the variability of salivary protein concentration.
