The effect of 17 amino acids on the rate of acid formation in saliva-glucoseenamel mixtures has been studied. It was found that valine, norleucine, phenylalanine and threonine had an inhibitory effect. The concentration necessary to produce this effect was too great to be a likely cause of acid inhibition in saliva.
