By use of both powdered enamel and whole tooth sections, it was found that the lower the pH of the sodium fluoride solution, the more effective is the protecing mechanism in reducing enamel solubility. Tests show a pH of 2.6 not to be injurious to the tooth surface during the time of topical application.
