Evidence has been presented to indicate that there is no fixed point in development of the teeth and jaws of the rat. In early stages of crown formation there is actually bone resorption with expansion of tooth crown and follicle deeper into the jawbone prior to eruption. After completion of the crown there is movement of the tooth outward. The mechanism is similar to the human.
