The possible influences of various ions on the solubility of enamel has been discussed and experiments carried out to test these effects.
Lead ion alone or in combination with fluoride has been found to be very effective in reducing enamel solubility.
Possible reaction mechanisms to explain this phenomenon of reduction in solubility have been postulated.
The possibility of clinical use of lead fluoride in the control of dental decay has been suggested.
