The effect of certain quinones and derivatives, and certain other compounds which may affect the oxidation reduction systems involved in the formation of acids by fermentation, have been tested for their effect on acid production in saliva. Of those tested, 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone was found equal to any others tested, and superior to most of them. Aside from the quinones and derivatives, the only other compounds tested which were particularly effective were the various peroxides.
