Dental caries experience rates representing probabilities may be directly compared with the use of ordinary methods. The dental caries experience rate, number of decayed, missing and filled permanent teeth per 100 persons examined, on the other hand, involves multiple events. To compare rates of this kind requires knowledge of the frequency distributions yielding the rates. A procedure of comparison involving the chi-square test was presented.
