Daily subcutaneous injections of NaHCO3 (6 animals), or alternate daily injections of NaHCO3 and NH4Cl (9 animals) failed to produce dental caries in albino rats. Histologic examination of the rats' teeth showed occasional abnormalities of the enamel matrix, ameloblasts, and odontoblasts. It was not possible to associate any of these conditions with the injection of either of the solutions used in the experiment.
