ROOT CANAL STUDIES: ANAEROBIC CULTURES

FRED W. MORSE JR. M.D.1 and MORTON F. YATES D.M.D.1

1 Harvard University Dental School, Boston, Mass.

Anaerobic methods utilizing media containing sodium thioglycollate were applied to bacteriologic cultures of dental root canals. Fewer positive cultures were obtained than by means of our customary aerobic medium. The best anaerobic results were obtained with a medium containing 0.5 per cent dextrose in an infusion broth with 0.1 per cent sodium thioglycollate.
