The various clinical forms of enamel decalcification, including pit and fissure, approximal, gingival, mechanical abrasion (brush or attrition), erosion, cracks, increasing friability, penetrating stains and senile caries are probably the result of the chemical composition of the saliva and the chemical and physical changes which take place in the stagnant saliva.
