The effects of various concentrations of sodium fluoride solutions on the growth and acid production of streptococci, lactobacilli and other mouth organisms were tested. The action of fluorosed, and fluorinetreated dental tissues were similarly studied.
Fluorine concentrations of less than 1 p.p.m. limit acid production by bacteria but concentrations in excess of 250 p.p.m. are needed to affect bacterial growth.
Fluorosed and fluorine-treated enamel and dentin also reduce acid production by bacterial cultures.
