A METHOD FOR MICRODETERMINATION OF DENSITY IN CALCIFIED TISSUES

MARTIN DEAKINS D.D.S., M.S.1 and RICHARD S. MANLY PH.D.1

1 Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, School of Medicine and Dentistry, The University of Rochester, Rochester, New York

A micro-method has been devised for determining the density (or porosity) of calcified tissues by directly measuring the volume of blocks prepared by a micro-jigsaw. The relative precision is 1.3 per cent for 1 cu. mm. samples. A table of average values for the densities of various normal and carious zones of human dentin is included.
