Chronic periapical inflammation attracts microorganisms from the blood, the bacteria remaining alive. This phenomenon is anacoresis. Treatment of teeth with vital pulps should be carried out so as not to provoke chronic periapical inflammation or an infected focus can develop. Teeth with putrescent pulps always have a chronical inflammation around the root end, which may also become infected hematogenously. They must be treated to eliminate the foci by surgical intervention or extraction where other operations are not possible.
