1. An anatomical description of the salivary glands of the rat is presented. 2. A 3 stage technique devised for the complete or partial extirpation of the major salivary rat glands is described. Developmental and functional analogies are mentioned in relation to the human salivary glands. 3. It is suggested this method offers a valuable means for study of function of the salivary glands both in their relation to the metabolic activities of the body and in relation to oral disease.
