CONCERNING THE "VITALITY" OF THE CALCIFIED DENTAL TISSUES

CHARLES F. BODECKER D.D.S., F.A.C.D.1 and WILLIAM LEFKOWITZ D.D.S.1

1 Division of Oral Histology, Columbia University Dental School, New York City

The placing of dry dyes in vital teeth of dogs and man demonstrates the presence and diffusion of "dental lymph." Maturity, abrasion or caries reduces greatly the permeability of the dental tissues. The removal of the dental pulp temporarily increases the permeability of the dental tissues indicating that this organ is active in regulating the diffusion of this fluid.

These observations suggest the presence of a physiological activity in the dental tissues.
